Update: Please note the 2019 indices have now been superseded by the release of the 2025 Indices of Deprivation (2025).
The Indices of Deprivation (ID) 2019 replace the ID2015 as the Government’s official measure of deprivation from the Ministry for Housing, Communities and Local Government. The profile and pattern of deprivation in Brent remains similar to 2015, and relative to other areas in England, the borough has improved its rankings nationally. A similar picture is seen across London: most boroughs have seen an improvement in their rankings relative to areas outside the capital. The report below summarises the data for Brent. Also, available is a Power BI dashboard which displays LSOA data and ward level estimates for the IMD and individual domains for Brent.
The ID2019 data for the whole of England are available on the MHCLG web page.
ONS has published an interactive visualisation which explores, and explains, income deprivation patterns by local authority. This allows you to explore patterns in Brent within the national context.
Also available is an interactive mapping tool, comparing national data for 2015 and 2019.
This report is part of the JSNA (Joint Strategic Needs Assessment) which looks at the current and future health and care needs of the local population. The JSNA explores the wider social factors that impact a person’s health and wellbeing, to inform the commissioning of health services within the borough.
A list of all JSNA reports can be found on the Brent Joint Strategic Needs Assessment 2019/20 open data page.
Please note the 2019/20 JSNA has been superseded, but reports have been retained on open data for reference purposes. Access the latest JSNA reports here.
