The Office for National Statistics (ONS) published the first release of 2021 census data on the 28th June 2022. On census day (21 March 2021), the population of Brent was estimated to be 339,800, making Brent the 5th largest London borough. The first release provides the following statistics at local authority level in England & Wales:
- population size
- population density
- population by age and sex (in five year age bands)
- the number of households.
The briefing below provides an analysis of what the data reveal about the Brent population and how it has been changing. Also provided is the full dataset released by ONS and a link to an ONS interactive tool which provides a visualisation of how the population has been changing over the last ten years.
The briefing below is provided here in PDF format and efforts have been made to ensure that the report is accessible to users of assistive technologies. However, if you cannot access the material and require it in a different format, please contact the open data team to discuss your requirements. Data tables used to create the charts in the report are available in CSV format on request.
Future Census data
The first release tables represent a very small part of the census results - the vast majority of census statistics have yet to be released. ONS is planning to do this in stages from Autumn 2022 onwards into 2023. These future releases will provide more detailed results about Brent’s many communities and localities. The timetable for future census releases can be found on the ONS website.
