The mid-year estimates are the ‘official’ source of data about population and relate to past trends. They provide an estimate of the population based on known data such as births, deaths, and estimates of migration flows. ONS released the mid-2024 estimates on the 30 July 2025. The mid-year estimate for 2024 suggests Brent is now home to around 353,000 residents.
The estimates can be accessed on the ONS website at the following links which provide:
the raw data in excel for all local authorities
an interactive excel tool - which allows you to choose a local authority and view data tables for that area
an ONS interactive briefing which summarises the data for England and Wales and includes the ability to choose a particular local authority to view data about.
For analysis of these data please see the research briefing, also available on open data: Population change in Brent | Brent Open Data.
