Joint Strategic Needs Assessments (JSNAs) are developed jointly by local authorities, health and social care partners. They provide a picture of the health and wider determinants of health, and wellbeing needs of the local population, where key issues are identified using an evidence-based approach.

Brent’s JSNA has been developed as an interactive tool, hosted in Power BI, to present the latest data and information to the public and our partners. This data and information is used to then identify actions that local agencies will need to take to improve the health and well-being of individuals and communities across Brent. A report version of the material is also provided below in word format.

Alongside the JSNA, we have developed Ward Profiles presenting data on health and the wider determinants of health, at a local level. Also provided below, is a link to a set of 2021 census ward profiles, which provide a range of demographic about Brent wards for context.

Health Needs Assessments (HNAs)

In addition to the JSNA interactive tool and ward profiles, topic-specific Health Needs Assessments (HNAs) are a systematic method for reviewing the health issues facing a population, that highlight the need and unmet need on a specific Public Health area. They offer more detail and are aimed at anyone with an interest in the related topic. From a public health point of view, the HNAs highlight inequalities by looking the areas or groups of residents that are most affected and are the evidence based on which Public Health agree priorities and resource allocation that will improve health and reduce inequalities. The following HNAs are currently available:

Oral Health Needs Assessment

Best Start for Life Needs Assessment

SEND (Special Educational Needs and Disability) Needs Assessment

Drug and Alcohol Needs Assessment

Accessibility

Efforts have been made to ensure the report is accessible to users of assistive technologies. The Brent JSNA is now presented in an interactive tool, however, we are also providing the data used to create the charts and tables in the report in .csv format and a Word document containing the text (coming soon), which can be downloaded, below. If you cannot access the material or require it in a different format, please contact the Brent Open Data team ([email protected]), with “JSNA” in the subject box to discuss your requirements.
